Missing Message Header of Outlook Express Messages

The following tutorial will explain how to correct the missing message header when printing Outlook Express 6 messages. When the user tries to print emails from outlook express, the email might print fine, but with the To: From: message header printed as (To:xxx@xxx.com, From:xxx@xxx.com, etc). 1. Launch Internet Explorer and from within navigate to File -> Page Setup
2. Set your Top and Bottom Margins to 0 and click OK

Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files are dynamic code libraries that are used by Windows operating systems, device drivers, and various Windows-based applications to perform specific tasks on the computer. The popularity of DLL files is governed by the fact that it reduces the need to include the same code again and again in different applications. With DLLs, you just need to write the code once as a DLL, and then program your application to call on this DLL file whenever it needs to perform the specific task.
What causes DLL errors?
Because the number of DLL files on a Windows system is quite large, DLL errors can occur due to several reasons. Some of the most common causes of DLL errors are listed below:

• One or more DLL files required by an application or device driver are missing, corrupt or obsolete.
• A required DLL is overwritten by an older or incompatible version when you install an application. For instance, Msvcp71.dll and Msvcr71.dll errors may occur if the DLL files are overwritten or deleted when you install or uninstall an application using them.
• Problems or bugs in applications that are using the DLL file.
• Existence of multiple versions of same application on the system. For instance, msoe.dll error occurs due to the existence of both Outlook Express 5 and Outlook Express 6 versions on the same computer.
• There invalid or incorrect entries in the registry. For example, Shell32.dll error may occur due to problems in the registry.
• Virus and spyware infections.

If DLL errors become a common affair on a computer, the computer is said to be in DLL hell.
How to fix and prevent DLL errors?
If the DLL error starts occurring soon after you have installed a new application on your computer, it is quite likely that some important DLL files are overwritten by their older versions. In order to fix this problem, first try to check on this application�s Web site if any update for this new program is available. If it is there, updating your program might resolve the error. If it does not, try to look for a newer version of the overwritten DLL file on other computers or on the Web and copy them to their respective folders on the system. You may have to use the regsvr32 command to register the files on your system. 

Decreasing Boot Time

Microsoft has made available a program to analyze and decrease the time it takes to boot to WindowsXP
The program is called BootVis

1. Uncompress the file.
2. Run BOOTVIS.EXE
3. For a starting point, run Trace / Next Boot + Driver Delays
4. This will reboot your computer and provide a benchmark
5. After the reboot, BootVis will take a minute or two to show graphs of your system startup.
6. Note how much time it takes for your system to load (click on the red vertical line)
7. Then run Trace / Optimize System
8. Re-Run the Next Boot + Drive Delays
9. Note how much the time has decreased
10. Mine went from approximately 39 to 30 seconds.

Creating a Shutdown/Reboot Icon

WindowsXP has a program called SHUTDOWN.EXE which allows you to easily create icons to shutdown or restart your computer.
To create a shutdown shortcut on the desktop:

1. Right click on an open area of the desktop
2. Select New / Shortcut
3. Enter in "shutdown -s -t 00" - no quotes
4. Press the Next button
5. For the name, enter in anything you like. I just use shutdown. Click on the Finish button.

For a reboot, enter "shutdown -r -t 00"

Parameters

• -l - Logs off the current user, this is also the defualt. -m ComputerName takes precedence.
• -s - Shuts down the local computer.
• -r - Reboots after shutdown.
• -a - Aborts shutdown. Ignores other parameters, except -l and ComputerName. You can only use -a during the time-out period.
• -f - Forces running applications to close.
• -m [\\ComputerName] - Specifies the computer that you want to shut down.
• -t xx - Sets the timer for system shutdown in xx seconds. The default is 20 seconds.

-c "message" - Specifies a message to be displayed in the Message area of the System Shutdown window. You can use a maximum of 127 characters. You must enclose the message in quotation marks

Windows logs off automatically while login

We have been receiving mails from several readers that they are not able to login to Windows. As soon as they login, the windows show applying your settings, saving your settings and logs off automatically without logging in. This situation is really very troublesome and gets onto the nerves of a person who needs his computer badly for some important work.
The main reasons behind this problem is a corruption in the registry key which holds the value of the files which are executed while login to windows. This registry key can get either replaced with some incorrect value or it might get corrupt due to some virus / trojan activity. Lets see how to fix this issue.
We need to remotely access the infected computer from another computer on same network. Then we need to correct the registry key for userinit under winlogon.
Lets see the steps one by one:
1. Connect the infected computer to a network which has at least one healthy computer connected. Power on both of the computers.
2. From the healthy computer, Go to Start > Run, type regedit.exe and press enter. This will launch the registry editor.
3. Go to File > Connect Network Registry, by using this infected computer’s name or IP address.
4. Locate this entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\
5. At this entry there is a key names userinit, double click on the key and set its value to “C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe,“
Exit the registry editor, restart the infected computer. This is it. This will work for most of the computers.
